Come on you jokin
Herb hasnt been playin GW for months, he said he prefered to stay in LA (no Los Angeles but Lion's Arch) chating through vent/ts with friends, showing each others items, surfing the net....to check prices maybe
He is one of the best informed "bizeness player" in GW
Come on folks open your eyes............

You can pay the entrance fee to a night club, but that doesn't give you the right to urinate on the dance floor.

You make me laugh a lot, you have a bad build I would say......You show me your weakness.
I said what I think about the WHOLE situation, Herb knows a lot and you dont OWN the truth (someone mentioned that the duped item is called ARMBRACE OF TRUTH... really funny). Thats all.
Anet is wise, and will do the maximum to exterminate those evil "players"....whoever they are LOL

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE refrain from posting again. i've had a good laugh looking at all your idiotic posts. you don't know anything about this situation, sit down before you get sticked.
also, getting on herb is starting to be creepy. you know and care too much about him, leave him out of it. he's an old timer and of course is curious because he is one of the legit people with a lot of money
and i'll ask again STOP POSTING

One more time, since you don't seem to get it: Just because anet made a "mistake" (oversight?) doesn't make it okay to exploit it. Common sense > human nature.

1) The reset you refer to was deliberate; ANet did it to fix prices that had gotten out of control due to some bad code they introduced to the trader system.
2) Very, very few people got rich off that reset, as the traders were perma-sold out shortly after the reset occurred. Only the most fortunate that stumbled across it in the first hour or so made out like bandits.
Apparently ANet decided that these consequences were worth it given that superior monk runes were going for 70k and ectos were going for 30k.
This is not a comparable incident. You are misinformed.

Buying an Armbrace is good for the duper, but bad for you. You can choose sides. One pays off. Bad.

So what about the people who were oblivious? and how can you know which armbraces were real anyways? o.O

Im not sure about the situation you gave.
But I have definately read about a court case where someone was found guilty for spending money which the bank accidenly put into their bank account.
If someone accidently leaves their house unlocked when they are out does not give everyone the right to steal from the house.
Anyway the EULA says you cant abuse exploits.

Not really. The item duping is similar to shoplifting. You're on Anet's property, and taking things (copying) that you didn't pay for (earn) and getting away with it because of a security hole (bug/exploit). Some people attempted the same feat (testing the exploit), but instead of actually taking the item, they turned it in to security (reported it) to show how it could be done so that measures could be taken to prevent it (fix bug). Now they are reviewing security footage to see who all shoplifted and are not allowing them back to the store (banned from game).
Sounds completely reasonable to me. Two reasons why this is very light punishment - 1) these shoplifters can simply re-disguise themselves and be a customer again (buy a new account) & 2) No legal action was taken, just a slap on the wrist and a "don't come back!"

First of all, the "bank" in this case didn't "blow up", the vault door was hacked into and currencies were robbed. Now the culprits are laundering their money... it is in the authority's right to detain anyone who may have obtained the ill-begotten goods, even if it means temporary detention.

LOL TEH BANK FORGET 2 LOCK THERE VAULT SO ITS OK IF U TAEK TEH MONAYS CUZ ITS THERE OWN FAULT LOLO
If someone forgets to lock their house and you walk in and take their car-keys and steal their car, it's - ethically - the exact same thing as knowingly getting too much change back when buying groceries and keeping it. The only difference is that in one situation you're taking, in the other you're keeping.
Integrity, ethics, and morals are some of the things you will have to learn as you grow up.

Firstly how do you think it was discovered that you could dupe items, clearly by accident. Secondly how can i be misinformed about the first market crash, i was their and got rich. Next your acting like this is on such a large scale to events such as the first market crash. A very small amount of people were affected by the first market crash and no one got banned but people got rich, and a very small amount are affected now.

Of course its mainly their fault wow, if you leave all your windows and doors open and go away for 2weeks and your house gets robbed, your asking for that right? so imo its 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other and therefore unfair to bann people for this. This has nothing to do with morals and ethics etc because its a game and making people pay money for this game and banning them even though your slightly to blame is totally unfair.

It's not how many people benefitted, it's the amount of damages inflicted... specifically to the economy.
1 person stealing a billion dollar inflicts just as much damages as 1 billion people stealing 1 dollar each.

I thought if you were perma-banned, you couldn't use the same name, address, email address, or IP address.
A person could fake all of that, I suppose, but that seems pretty tough to get around. No?

No, I highly doubt that. Perhaps, back in Everquest or Diablo back in the day, the duping of an item might have been found by accident. Since then, people have looked and tried everything in their power to dupe items in online games. If it's possible in one game, it may be possible in others, and it is, more times than not.
Since Guild Wars went live, people have tried to find a way to dupe items. Someone found a way. It was not an accident this time.

I'm pretty sure you may be right on all of that but IP. A friend of mine was banned (a year ago), and his roommate was still able to use his account (which was on the same router, and of course, IP). Either way, a new IP is easy enough to get, and so is the rest of the information.

So if someone robs a house with unlocked doors, they should be able to get away with it? Nice logic.

Somehow I feel that anet tries to make other ppl suffer for there mistakes. Banning ppl because they fail at keeping this game running properly. They fail at so many fronts except at banning ppl for lame reasons.
Some armors got a bug, they dont fix it. Ha was full with bugs, they just remove the map. The whole game is bugged they ban ppl.
Anet just do your job and u dont have to ban so much. If u cant say certain words in local make sure they get filtered out.
If u dont want ppl to exploit certain bugs just make sure the game works properly. good luck with it.
